Baby Chicks

Our friends the Roman's had baby chicks hatching today.  They told us we could come over and watch the chicks come out of their eggs.  It was really fun to see it in person.  I hadn't ever seen this before.  All the kids were gathered around watching and then they would run off.  Finally, one of the chicks pecked its way out and all the kids came back  to see.  I guess once one chick hatches it starts to chirp and it encourages the rest to start working their way out of their egg.  They have to stay in the incubator for two hours after they hatch.  They have to dry out the yoke which is attached to them and also dry out their feathers.  Then they are moved to a box with a heat lamp to stay warm. This was hands on science today!

Rodeo for Justin's 12th Birthday

Justin turned 12 on October 1st.  We decided to have a family outing to the San Dimas Rodeo for his actual birthday.  This Saturday we are planning to have a birthday party with his friends.  The rodeo was fun and exciting!  It was also VERY hot!  We scorched in the sun for over 3 hours when we had to leave because we ran out of waters and cash!  I think we were all getting headaches and goofy by that point anyway.   Bummer was we missed the bull riding which I find the most exciting!  I love rodeos because they are so all American.  They had sky divers parachute into the rodeo for the opening ceremony.  It was beautiful.  My pictures are definitely not what I had hoped but I guess I will have to make do.  It is the memories that matter anyway.

After the rodeo we headed towards home and stopped at  Toy's R Us for a little shopping.  Then Justin requested  BJ's for dinner.  Next, we headed to the movies to see  Courageous.  It was a wonderful movie.  Even Garrett loved it and said he thought it was one of the best movies he had ever seen.  It was very inspiring.  We had a full day!

This is Justin's birthday Apple Pie that I made for him.  He wanted it instead of cake.

L.A. County Fair

School field trips are my favorite!  The kids and I love going to the fair every year. We also love meeting our friends the Lucas' at the fair.  It is kind of a half way point for both of us.  This was the first year I can remember the weather not being miserably hot!  The crowds were very mild too. It was a very fun day.

High School Football #52

Garrett is really enjoying football at the high school level.  He is on the defensive line.  If it weren't for the numerous injuries and then bronchitis he would be playing a lot more.  Hopefully, he is back at it now with nothing holding him back!  This was the last game he played in as a starter.  The rest of us are having a great time watching his games.  We also love going to watch the Varsity games on Friday nights.  Go #52!
