Baby Chicks

Our friends the Roman's had baby chicks hatching today.  They told us we could come over and watch the chicks come out of their eggs.  It was really fun to see it in person.  I hadn't ever seen this before.  All the kids were gathered around watching and then they would run off.  Finally, one of the chicks pecked its way out and all the kids came back  to see.  I guess once one chick hatches it starts to chirp and it encourages the rest to start working their way out of their egg.  They have to stay in the incubator for two hours after they hatch.  They have to dry out the yoke which is attached to them and also dry out their feathers.  Then they are moved to a box with a heat lamp to stay warm. This was hands on science today!
